Goodwill Detroit welcomes the iconic R&B vocal group Boyz II Men and American Idol contestant Keri Lynn Roche to the Sound Board on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 8:00 p.m.
“Harmonies & Hope” is a celebration of Detroit’s musical past and present and a fundraiser supporting its bright economic future. The event brings together many of the stars who support and continue contributing to the city’s musical renown for one night of “goodwill” and great music.
Proceeds from the concert will help fund Goodwill Detroit’s mission to put Metro Detroiters back to work through job training, education and placement programs. For 94 years, Goodwill Detroit has served Metro Detroit and surrounding areas through programs like Flip the Script, Operation Good Jobs and Goodwill’s Green Works.
Boyz II Men remains one of the most truly iconic R&B groups in music history, having redefined popular R&B and continuing to create timeless hits. Celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, the band has penned and performed some of the most celebrated classics of the past two decades – and has earned several accolades including four Grammy Awards, nine American Music Awards, nine Soul Train Awards, three Billboard Awards, and a 2011 MOBO Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. The band holds the distinction of being the best-selling R&B group of all time, with an astounding 60 million albums sold. And the hits just keep on coming—the group continues to craft new albums and bring their legendary act to stages across the world.
Opening act Keri Lynn Roche was placed in “top 24” girls on American Idol 2014, Season XIII. She is back home from her American Idol Hollywood experience and moving forward with a renewed sense of passion and dedication to her craft. Roche has had the opportunity to perform at some very well-known national venues including: The House of Blues, The Sandiego Onyx Room, the Venice Beach Boardwalk as well as many local Detroit area stages including: the DIY Music Festival Ferndale, The Blind Pig, The Magic Bag, The Crofoot, PJ’s Lager House, The Ark, Taste of Ann Arbor, Ann Arbor Art Fair, Xhedos and Gracie’s Underground. Her new single, “Scar on my Heart” is now available on iTunes. We are happy to have her join us for this night of entertainment.
“The title Harmonies & Hope says it all – through this concert, we plan to entertain the public while raising awareness, support and funding for Goodwill Detroit’s mission of putting Detroiters with employment barriers back to work,” said Lorna Utley, President & CEO of Goodwill Detroit. “We are proud to partner with MotorCity Casino Hotel to welcome Boyz II Men and look forward to advancing our mission through an evening of fun.”
